HIM: Tri Diary
Ha! You think I am going to talk about a someONE…when actually I am going to talk about a someTHING.
Half Ironman. Triathlon. My first.
Distance is 70.3 miles. A 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run. A race. All in a row, and with less then half a day to complete in time!
My training program began this week.
For over a year now I have been training for events. I set goals, and I achieve them, but I keep training. I enjoy the ride so to speak. The training is fun for me. I am still quite scared of competition (more on that when I finally share some old journal entries).
This week I was off to a great start. Monday was supposed to be a rest day, but I took advantage of my free schedule and went to the local bike shop to hop on the computrainer (a piece of equipment that holds my bike while I ride that is hooked up to a computer that gives my bike resistance etc). I met my favorite riding partner (Dad) and we were on our way riding through Italy. Unfortunately I was a bit more ambitious with my ride then I anticipated. I made it through 22 of the 30 miles we had set up for us. Oh well. It felt great on the legs!
Tuesday, also fell apart a bit. Long story short, I missed my first swim with my training group because of an injury I incurred during the day…No you will not get more on that, and yes I am fine! Wednesday, I swam on my own. I often do. I pushed myself though a bit more because I was so mad that I ALREADY felt like a slacker! I pushed my run too, just to punish myself I guess!
Today, Thursday, I had my first training group run. We had a great tempo run with a nice warm up lasting about an hour or so. I felt great. The weather was great. Maybe I can do this…maybe.
